Centre for Latin American & Caribbean Studies (CLACS)
Established in April 2021, the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) continues the activity of the former Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS). As such, CLACS is an interdisciplinary centre committed to serve and facilitate the work of the Latin American Studies community in the UK and worldwide.
CLACS hosts a programme of academic and public-facing events, offers doctoral study and early career training, welcomes Visiting Fellows, provides online research resources, conducts its own externally funded programme of research and facilitates the research of other Latin Americanists in the UK and beyond. The Centre supports scholarship across a wide range of subject fields in the humanities and cognate social sciences and actively maintains and builds ties with cultural, diplomatic and business organisations with interests in Latin America. It possesses a world-class library dedicated to the study of Latin America.
The Centre’s Director is Dr Jamille Pinheiro Dias, who is advised by a Steering Committee.
