Dr Maria Luísa Coelho is a Lecturer in Portuguese at the University of Oxford, where she also teaches on gender in visual art and culture for the MSt. in Women's Studies. Her PhD is in Comparative Literature and she recently completed a post-doctoral project on Portuguese Artists and Writers in London (1950-1986). Her areas of research and publication are transcultural dialogues, in particular Anglo-Portuguese relations, and feminist approaches to Portuguese art, with a focus on contemporary women artists. She is also interested in diasporic identities in the Portuguese-speaking world and has published on Mozambican artist Bertina Lopes. Her most recent publications include the co-edition of a special issue of Portuguese Studies on transnational Portuguese women writers and a chapter on domestic work and Portuguese women artists (in The Artist at Home, published by Bloomsbury). She is currently co-editing a volume on Portuguese writer Ana Luísa Amaral (Peter Lang).
