What a Year! Schlagzeilen aus der Zukunft
What a Year! Schlagzeilen aus der Zukunft is the theme of the latest annual German-language competition organised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in cooperation with the ILCS.
This year’s assignment is to put together the front page of a fictional broadsheet newspaper in the German-speaking world. The catch is that you will be writing the final edition for 2024, and must select the most important stories of a year that has not yet ended. Who knows what the rest of the year might bring? How is our understanding of events influenced by the way in which they are reported?
Participants are tasked with writing three short articles on topics chosen from nine categories: art and culture, climate and nature, lifestyle, history, science and technology, sport, economy, education, health. Articles should have eye-catching headlines, and participants are asked to design the front page using a selection of templates.
As usual, the competition is open to lovers and learners of German at all levels, and entries will be judged according to categories based on the level of language expertise. Winners will be invited to a day in London where they will have the opportunity to take part in a journalism workshop and prize-giving event. Entries must be made via the competition website by Thursday, 20 June 2024.
