Monja Stahlberger

1 October 2024

Monja Stahlberger, who completed her doctorate this spring, talks about her time as a student at the ILCS and her plans for the future in an interview in the series ‘Five Minutes with …’.

Participating in the Erasmus exchange programme during her BA in Media Culture Studies and English at the University of Freiburg, Germany, persuaded her to return to Birmingham to study for an MA in Literature and Culture, where her research on W.G. Sebald’s The Rings of Saturn sparked her interest in transnational cultural studies and exile literature and led to her doctoral study at the Institute.

Monja’s research was funded by the Martin Miller and Hannah Norbert-Miller Trust. She was the 2024 of the Sylvia Naish Lecture Competition and has been awarded the 2024-25 Bithell Visiting Fellowship at the ILCS.
