Symposium in Honour of Judith Still
This one-day symposium will be held in honour of Professor Judith Still to mark the fifth anniversary of her retirement. Judith, currently Vice-President (Humanities) of the British Academy, has been a major figure in French and Francophone Studies in the UK, with significant leadership roles notably in Nottingham, where she held a Chair for much of her career, and in London, where she served as Director of the Institute for Romance Studies, a forerunner of the Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies itself. Her work is an important reference point in a diverse range of research specialisms, especially in the 18th century and in different aspects of contemporary critical theory. Judith has been a stimulating interlocutor for all invited speakers who will address particular areas in their presentations. The intention is to edit the papers subsequently, hopefully to form a special issue of one of the journals in which Judith played a long-lasting editorial role, such as Nottingham French Studies.
