Developing Anti-Fascist Pedagogies
In the context of the rise of far-right political parties in many parts of the world, it is more important than ever to learn from the lessons of the past and to advance an anti-Fascist pedagogical practice that has a direct relevance to the present moment.
The aim of this in-person preliminary workshop at the Institute of Languages, Cultures and Societies is to explore how researchers, working in different subject areas, are explicitly shaping their teaching to reflect the changing global context and to develop critical awareness of the ways in which the past impinges on the present.
The workshop will provide a forum to discuss:
• Sharing innovative approaches to teaching fascism/totalitarianism and strengthen collaborations between researchers;
• Determine the core principles and characteristics of an antifascist pedagogy practice;
• Plan a series of events aimed at creating a network of researchers/teachers engaged in developing antifascist pedagogies.
A series of short presentations will be followed by discussion on the above issues.
