This event provides insights into journalism and tv reporting on politics and cultural affairs in the UK and the German-speaking countries. In a round-table conversation, four professionals with a wealth of experience in journalism, will explore how the UK media report on Germany and vice versa. How do the two nations see one another? How can stereotypes and clichés about ‘the other’ be overcome? How do newspaper, radio and tv reporting differ?

These and other questions are tackled by Gabi Biesinger, foreign correspondent for the UK at the German broadcaster ARD; Dr Imke Henkel, long-time UK and Ireland correspondent for the German press and Lecturer in Journalism and Media at the University of Leeds; Stephanie Nourse, output producer at Sky News; and Rosie Goldsmith, journalist and former BBC presenter, specialist in cultural and foreign affairs.

The event includes a prize-giving and celebration of the winners of this year’s German Language Competition (‘What a Year! Schlagzeilen aus der Zukunft‘), run jointly by the DAAD and ILCS.

This event and the German Language Competition is organised by the DAAD and ILCS and kindly co-sponsored by the German Embassy in the UK, the Swiss Embassy in the UK, the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Goethe-Institut London and the Keith Spalding Trust of the University of London.
